Moons of Elusenol I - Syci The Silver Moon

There are two moons spoken of in Ymerodres. As much of the book takes place in deep mist, they just don’t figure much. They are said to be ‘of two different colors’. One of the moons is silver (p.144 Lysidril) “The crystal clear sky was deepest and darkest blue, and two moons of different colour and size had arose, both forming sharp crescents framed by a million twinkling stars.” (Gathering p.73) Then there's Orne, a vegetation moon of equal parts forest and plain. At the poles, there's an ice cap and at the equator, there's a warm zone. Not overly hotter than the rest but it allows more verdant botany. Both are mentioned in the legends and religions of Elusenol, more symbolically than factually.

Syci is silver, misty and the source of the metal moonsilver. The silver colour as viewed from Elusennol is due to the high cloud-cover from the water-world below, a place of warm, fresh water, unsalted and this creates a tropical heat. The moon surface comprises of two continents, Olcara and Triffan, surrounded by warm seas teaming with fish of all sizes, many are gigantic and terribly hostile. The south pole faces the sun, and is a zone of swamp set with hot geysers and creatures suited to extreme heat. The vapour covers the whole planet, meaning it is impossible to see Elusenol from its surface, yet, light reflected from the planet below causes the dimness to have an eternal blue tinted ambiance, much like a northern lights effect. Olcra is cooler, greener and water tends to condense over everything, humidity is high, and is more suited to usual life forms, whereas Triffan is hotter, with scorched barren mountains and jungled vales, home to huge carnivorous amphibian lizards, such as giant crocodiles and dinosaurs. There are small ethno-cities all over the continents, made up of the Molc, the Dryne, Tawsha, Nymyd, Beloc races. The huge moonsilver crystals poke from the land in many sacred areas, their columns frequently releasing their colour into the sky as a silver cloud cover, (rather than a mist) protecting the crystal columns from the sunlight. Sunlight neutralises the silver, and it has no qualities until out of it, which it slowly replenishes. Needless to say, there are no were-creatures on Syci. The beings of Syci were not the products of the serendipitous fusion of spark and falling crystal, nor were the dwellers of Orne. So the lunarians lack resonance, and cannot be deresonated. But they do have a crystal and a spark, they simply never inherited the trauma from the explosion of Spyrt.

The original base origin life form of Syci were the Ulfthar, of which there are none left, but their offspring transformed into the five races of the now. This evolution was rapid, and it seems that the Ulfthar were polymorphic, these beings could shape-change as they desired. The rapid divergences led to warfare and dissolution of the creeds - until one of the gods halted it, turning the strange megaliths and crystal pillars of the land into pure moonsilver. This stopped the random polymorphic events that wrecked the lives of just about everyone - halting the were folk in their tracks. Should they ever visit another world, their rapid changes will no doubt proceed once more, leaving the inflicted with madness.
